I have a regular trip of 530 miles in a day and then 50 miles the next three days and the 530 miles return to home. That is 1,110 miles in five days and I have done this four times on the Savage and five times on my 750 Yamaha Verago. Once I did over a 1200 miles in two days on the Savage.

I set the Handlebars high and machined a good metal throttle friction devise, with a quick release.

Also a made some floor foot boards and have foot pegs mounted on my case guard bar too!

I have the Suzuki option wind shield and Suzuki saddle bags, with the Suzuki bag braces. Also I bungie a duffle bag over the passenger pillion and have a pack behind the wind shield (fasten to the handle bars).

A $6 Walmart EZ read watch is fastened to the handle bar pack.

I carry one gallon of gas in the duffle and a small tire pump and a cable lock (also a quart of water). My inner-tubes have flat sealer in them. My tool kit is a Leatherman Wave, 6" adjustable wrench, 10mm & 12mm combination box socket wrench and spark plug wrench. Also I have an extra spark-plug and fuses. Bailing wire and electricians tape.

I have taken both of the ornamental cylinder head covers off and so I can change the spark plug without removing the seat and tank. Also I have an electrical lead coming from the pos. terminal of the batt. (insulated end of course). I can jump start the bike, with one lead to this jumper and a ground lead to the brake petal.

I installed a "HIGHWAY BLASTER" horn, ($10 Pep Boys and it is an easy switch with the original toy horn) it is funneled down to keep water out of it.

I sprayed my boots, jeans, jacket and gloves with canvas water proofing spray (from Walmart Sporting dept.). I wear a full face helmet and have placed a piece of BLACK MASKING TAPE on the visor at eye brow level, to act as a sun block.

THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEM IS A PADDED LEATHER CHANNEL that goes over the stock seat, so as to make an ironing board seat out of the stock notch seat. The Savage has the most uncomfortable seat for a ride over 75 miles that I have ever experienced!!!

I depart, just before day break. Stop for gas every 100 miles. Do not follow trucks or such that will block my vision of the pavement. Always on the lookout for Debris like tire carcasses and mufflers, in the road and or, pot holes and dig groves!

A cell phone is good insurance (also a credit card)

Oh yes, before the trip I put aside all of my worn out socks, under ware and T shirts to wear for the trip. I throw the dirty clothes away and buy new stuff at Walmart for the return trip home (use paper napkins for hankies).
